...and 29 is the new 15?

Sorry to say, we need to change the schedule for November from the 1st and 15th to the 1st and 29th.

11 is the new 9!

"November" comes from the Latin word for "nine" because in earlier times there were only 10 months in a year. In this year, there are two times on the eleventh month that you can join us for English Club.

Not a Couch Potato

We've looked at various expressions in English, and here is a translation of other languages' terms for a person who reads a lot. A person who spends much time in front of the TV is a couch potato, by the way.

Do You Mind?

We talked about the expressions using the word "mind" at a recent English Club. If you've got a lot on your mind, you might not be careful to mind your own business, but other people will mind.

If you're absent minded, you might miss English Club in October. We hope you'll be open minded and attend!

Will You Be In Cahoots in September?

Here's a new word for you. To be "in cahoots with someone" is to conspire (plan) with someone, usually to do something dishonest or illegal.

We won't be "in cahoots" in English Club, but we will be in conversation together. Here's when we'll meet in September.

Augustus and August

Luke 2:1  In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.
The account of the birth of Christ in the Bible begins with that sentence. But, if Augustus Caesar is associated with August, then why is Christmas celebrated in December?
No, there was no September Caesar, in case you were wondering. Just Julius for July and Augustus for August.

English Club will meet just once in August. It's an unusual August this year, but I hope you can join us!

Julius, and July

Did you know that "July" is named after Julius Caesar, the emperor of Rome? Now you do.
Do you know when English Club will be meeting (face to face, or "mask to mask")?
Now you do!
